Speaker Biography
Kim McKay AO has dedicated her career to public advocacy and community engagement in natural science and environmental causes both in Australia and internationally. As Director and CEO of the Australian Museum since 2014 - the first woman to hold this position in the institution's 190-year history - she oversees a collection of over 22 million natural science specimens and cultural objects, and has led a major transformation including the $57.5m award-winning Project Discover renovation.
With an extensive background in marketing and communications, McKay has held senior roles with Discovery Channel and National Geographic in the USA, and co-founded the Clean Up Australia and Clean Up the World campaigns. Her contributions to science and the environment have been widely recognized, including her appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2008, and honorary doctorates from both the University of Wollongong and the University of Technology Sydney for her achievements across the cultural, environmental, and business sectors.
