The writers of two powerful and insightful new novels (Eleanor Limprecht’s The Coast and Jackie Bailey’s auto-fictional The Eulogy) recreate and interrogate lost worlds. From an infectious diseases hospital on the coast of Sydney in 1910 to their own family life. Join Eleanor and Jackie as they talk with Suzanne Leal.

Participants
Jackie Bailey is a professional writer and researcher and a recognised international expert on cultural diversity in the arts. Her work has been published widely, including in the Roots anthology from the 2020 SBS Emerging Writers’ Competition. Jackie is also an ordained interfaith minister, trained deathwalker and practising funeral director. Her debut novel The Eulogy was published in June 2022.
Eleanor Limprecht was born and raised in the US, Germany, and Pakistan before moving to Australia in her early twenties. She is the author of four novels: The Coast, The Passengers, Long Bay and What Was Left (shortlisted for the ALS Gold Medal). Eleanor’s short fiction and essays have been published in various places including Best Australian Stories, Sydney Noir, Griffith Review, Kill Your Darlings and The Big Issue.
Suzanne Leal is the author of novels The Teacher’s Secret and The Deceptions, for which she won the Nib People’s Choice Prize. A regular presenter at literary, community and corporate events and co-presenter of the BAD All About Crime podcast, Suzanne is the host of Thursday Book Club, connecting readers online. Her new novel will be published in 2023.
