This session features two writers for the screen whose work tackles big ideas in inventive ways. From drama that tilts at the musical to immersive storytelling. Kristen Dunphy, creator and co-writer of the ground-breaking television series Wakefield, and writer and TV/immersive creator Kylie Boltin (Ravi and Emma, Missing) speak with Kathryn Millard.

Participants
Dr Kylie Boltin is a multiple Walkley award-winning filmmaker in the categories of Innovation (2022 for Ravi and Emma) and Digital Storytelling (2014 for Cronulla Riots: The Day that Shocked the Nation) and is the recipient of the NSW Premier’s Literary Award for screenwriting (2021: Missing).
Kristen Dunphy has over 25 years’ experience writing and story-producing drama for Australian television. In 2012, she was awarded the Foxtel Fellowship for Excellence and is the recipient of three AWGIE Awards. Kristen co-created and co-wrote The Principal (aired on SBS TV/Netflix) and created, co-wrote and produced the critically acclaimed Wakefield (aired on ABC TV/Showtime USA).
Kathryn Millard is a writer (scripts, essays, criticism) and award-winning filmmaker. Her films span documentaries (Shock Room, The Boot Cake, Light Years), feature dramas (Travelling Light, Parklands), shorts and hybrids. Kathryn is Emeritus Professor in Screen and Creative Arts at Macquarie University. Double Exposure (Rutgers University Press) was published in 2022.
